Multi-talented athlete Michael Vick has been indicted and will possibly be arrested for allegedly keeping a dog fighting ring for over 6 years. These are despicable charges for despicable acts, if true.

Regardless, I find the media’s attention on this matter to be loathsome. No, Michael Vick cannot be immune to scrutiny because of his exceptional talent but there are many athletes in the NFL and other sports` associations who are repeatedly arrested for spousal abuse, reckless driving and other reprehensible acts. Why don’t the media descend on them with the same furry they have pounded on Michael Vick?

Remember that we are talking about dogs. Why is it that beating your wife seems more acceptable than pitting two dogs against one another? With all respect to Mahatma Gandhi who said ` The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated`, I think we should remember there is a brochette of real bandits running the streets. Indict them. Arrest them. If you really want to punish Michael Vick, hit him where it really hurts: his wallet. To put him behind bars would be a salacious injustice. Let this Falcon fly.
