Brains, Beauty & Bashing.

When a picture of Hillary Rodham Clinton emerged a few days ago, it sparked a plethora of comments, most unflattering. The first to throw a stone was conservative and Hillary-hater, Rush Limbaugh. I think unattractive people living in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. As for all the unpleasant comments on Hillary’s picture, I think it’s unfortunate and absolutely uncalled for. I’m however quite certain that as a wise & seasoned public figure, Hillary not only expected comments on her personal appearance but she’s also used to them. Remember the picture in the bathing suit? Is there a time when a woman hasn’t been judged on her hair, make-up and wardrobe? It really doesn’t matter how smart, witty or successful a woman is, the lasting impression will always be about her looks. Our eye has been Photoshop-trained and we’re only comfortable with sanitized, slimed down, perfectly lit photographs. If we’re not comfortable with our own wrinkles, uneven tones, thinning hair and extra pounds, why would we think Hillary would feel comfortable having her own imperfections pointed out?

On the other hand, it’s a fantastic way to make us forget about the real issues. Good move Republicans! It will however, take more than a Joan Riversesque bashing to make me forget about Iraq, Darfur, Katrina, High School Shootings, Global Warming, Electoral Fraud, Rumsfeld, Gonzales, et al.
