A Word On Ingrid.

A reader has asked me to comment on the Ingrid Bétancourt ordeal. I have limited knowledge of Columbian politics. However, from where I’m standing, Ingrid Bétancourt is a survivor. 5 years in captivity cannot be easy and must be even harder when you have two children at home, pining for your return. Here’s where once again, politicians fail the people. By refusing to negociate with adversaries – a position adopted by many of the World Leaders – you put innoncent people in a position of chips on your poker table. Hostages become disposable currency. Are you listening Uribe? Bétancourt is a brave survivor who’s paying the price for her convictions and I pray for her safe return as well as for the return of the thousands of innocent political hostages throughout the world who don’t have the luxury of a world-spread lobbying campaign and whose last names don’t ring a bell. Come home soon.
